Die Wörter, die einen Tag in Deutschland entscheiden
Not a word list. Every item asks you to produce the German - the form field, the collocation, the Redemittel phrase - and marks it. Weighted deliberately: Behörden and Wohnen because you will need them within a week of arriving, feste Wendungen because collocations are where advanced-sounding German actually lives, and Redemittel because the speaking and writing parts are scored on exactly those phrases.

| Redemittel: Meinung | B1 Sprechen Teil 1 and 3, and the opinion essay. These phrases are the marking criteria, almost literally. |
| Redemittel: Briefe | Every writing task at A2 and B1. Greeting, register and sign-off are separate points before content is even read. |
| Feste Wendungen | eine Frage stellen, eine Entscheidung treffen, einen Antrag stellen - unguessable, and wrong-sounding the moment you pick the wrong verb. |
| Behörden & Formulare | Anmeldung, Aufenthaltstitel, Frist, Bescheid. Off-syllabus for the exam, decisive for the visa. |
| Wohnen & Mietvertrag | warm vs. kalt, Kaution, Kündigungsfrist, Nebenkostenabrechnung - the vocabulary of not being taken advantage of. |
| Wortbildung | Gives you the article for free: -ung, -heit, -keit are always die; -chen is always das; the last part of a compound decides everything. |
