Double Connectors

Paired connectors join two elements or two clauses. None of them push the verb to the end - normal verb-second order stays, unlike subordinating conjunctions (see Subordinating Conjunctions II).

The four pairs

Pair	Meaning	Example
sowohl ... als auch	both ... and	Ich spreche sowohl Deutsch als auch Englisch.
entweder ... oder	either ... or	Wir können entweder heute oder morgen kommen.
weder ... noch	neither ... nor	Ich mag weder Kaffee noch Tee.
nicht nur ... sondern auch	not only ... but also	Nicht nur die Miete ist hoch, sondern auch die Nebenkosten sind hoch.

Notes

weder...noch already carries negation - do not add nicht or kein on top of it.
When nicht nur...sondern auch joins two full clauses, each clause keeps its own verb-second order (see the Miete/Nebenkosten example above - two full clauses, each with its own verb in second position).
entweder...oder can also join two clauses: Entweder du kommst mit, oder ich gehe allein. (Either you come along, or I go alone.) Note: when "entweder" starts the sentence, it counts as the first element, so the verb "kommst" is still in second position.
